TECHNICAL NEWS RELEASE

September 2000

Power Systems provide the complete power and battery management solution for today’s wide range of telecommunication requirement.

Unique Communication with all modules
For internal communication purposes all system modules (AC distribution, DC distribution, rectification and monitor/control) are connected through an optically isolated microprocessor controlled internal system bus, minimising system wiring while providing the dynamic capability to monitor and alter system parameters. This communication capability is achieved through the use of a microprocessor in each module allowing unprecedented flexibility in achieving individual customer configurations.

Superior Monitoring
All system modules are supervised by SETEC’s DM3000, monitor/controller through the internal system bus. The DM3000 is supplied with factory-preset default or customised settings making the Medium Diverse Power System a truly turnkey installation. In the event that any of these settings need to be altered this can easily be done through the simple to use monitor/controller front panel interface or, using SETEC’s configuring and monitoring software, through a telephone connection.

Constant Power Output reducing System Cost
System output power is achieved through the design of high efficiency rectifiers with SETEC’s proprietary high frequency resonant power technology using planar magnetics. This, combined with microprocessor control and thermal management, provides high reliability and efficient operation with intelligent control. The Diverse DR3000 rectifier is rated 92% efficient while operating over a wide input voltage range with unity power factor. The constant power characteristics of the output, over a wide range, allow for reduced system costs due to the reduction of rectifiers needed. The design of the DR3000 allows true current share between each unit and all rectifier information to be interfaced to the network bus. Fail-safe back up circuitry keeps all settings in the event of a loss of power or a loss of communications with the DM3000.

Ease of Distribution and Connection
Customer interface has been considered with the use of easy to install and configure AC and DC distribution modules. Each AC distribution module has power surge protection for each phase input to safeguard system and customer equipment and a micro circuit breaker on each AC output. The state of the surge protection devices, individual MCBs and the characteristics of the AC input power is interfaced to the internal system bus. The DC distribution module features easy customer connectivity through individual MCBs (1 – 16). Information regarding system voltage, current and alarms and control of the optional low voltage disconnect, which protects the batteries against deep discharge, is also interfaced to the internal system bus.

Experience
SETEC has the experience to provide a complete installation, commissioning and maintenance service for their total range of Diverse products. As part of its design and consultation service, SETEC also provides guidance on battery selection, installation and maintenance.
