Following exhaustive research and consultations with relevant parties, Setec have in place strategies and procedures to ensure a smooth transition to lead-free. The changeover is a large undertaking, involving not only new equipment, but component packaging, processing and storage areas. In addition to this, there is a need for engineering reviews of component suitability for new processes, training of staff, procedural changes and stock management.
On the equipment front, Setec has purchased a new reflow oven that is capable of lead-free processing. Setec is the first company to purchase this ERSA oven in the ANZ region, with installation to occur in April 2005.
“The purchase of this oven demonstrates Setec’s commitment to quality,” says Walter D’Avolio, Operations Manager. “No matter where our customers’ end markets are, we will be able to supply quality products that comply with their regions’ regulatory requirements. This step is essential for Setec, to support our growth into global markets and to meet our customer’s requirements in the European Community”.
