Scholarship receiver Chris Thompson is visiting Setec

2019 Peter Lloyd Scholarship receiver, Chris Thompson, was brought up in Bendigo, VIC, and studied civil & environmental engineering at the University of Melbourne. He developed an interest in electronics and enrolled in the Master of Electrical Engineering program at the university.

ChriLouise Bayliss, Stephen Bell and Chis Thompson at Setecs’s passion in electronic hardware design, embedded systems and signal processing is shared by Setec, the company with 50 years’ experience in building custom power supplies.

In September this year, Chris visited Setec, where he met Setec CEO, Louise Bayliss, learned about company’s research and development program and met with company’s engineers and interns. He had a tour around company’s manufacturing facilities and learned how the product goes from the idea to implementation, from prototypes to production.

“It was great to get the chance to meet Louise, Stephen, Olga, and a number of the engineers working at SETEC. It was very interesting to hear about the company and how it has developed and progressed over the years. The highlight of the visit was getting a tour of the factory which gave me an insight into how their products are designed and manufactured and seeing a lot of processes I’ve learnt at university working on a large scale.” – says Chris.

The young engineer is dreaming about contributing to the development of Australian manufacturing and hopes to apply his skills for a good cause. Setec is proud to support young, talented students, allowing them to dedicate more time for studies, and build up on their strengths.
